Application sent to DES & HSE for Centre of Education for Children with Autism in Co Wicklow.
The state continue to fail to fully recognise and fund for an ABA education & multidisciplinary services for children attending Barnacoyle.
St Catherine's Association Ltd currently offer this education to the children attending from which parents have experienced outstanding results to date.
The children's future education is in serious jeopardy unless the Department of Education & Science (DES) and the Health Service Executive (HSE) commit financially to the Barnacoyle Project which supports a brighter future for children of Co Wicklow with autism through ABA.
The state currently fund 12 other ABA schools in different counties throughout Ireland which the Department of Education & Science consider as Pilot Schools even though some are in existence for many years now. Barnacoyle is currently within the DES national school structure which appears to inhibit the DES from recognising and resourcing the ABA education on offer to the children there. St Catherine's Association Ltd in conjunction with the Barnacoyle Parent's Group have recently submitted an application to the DES and the HSE in line with the 12 other Pilot ABA Schools in the hope that the state will reconsider. If ABA is funded by the state in other counties for children with autism how can they possibly discriminate against the children of Co Wicklow?
The Barnacoyle Parent's Group will continue to lobby and campaign until they have successfully achieved their goal of Securing a Brighter Future for Children with Autism in Co Wicklow through ABA.
